Zones and layouts
A zone is a part of a screen with its own content. By splitting a screen into zones you can, for example, show a large property with a ticker next to it with opening hours or an endless rotation of images.
When to use zones
One content item per screen? Then you do not need zones. Choose a fullscreen template and you are done.
Use zones when you want to show several things at once:
- Property large on the left, contact details on the right
- Menu card at the top, price list at the bottom
- Live video with a social media feed next to it
Layouts
When you create a template you choose a layout type:
- Fullscreen: one zone that fills the whole screen
- Split-screen: two zones, large on the left and narrow on the right (or the other way round)
- Elegant-stacked: a vertical stack of blocks, suited for portrait
- Gallery-grid: several properties side by side in a grid
Every zone shows content independently. One zone can show a specific property, another can be a rotation of five other properties.
Steps
- Go to Design › Layouts and click New layout. If you are in My layouts, choose Start with a blank layout. In the Library you go straight to the next step.
- Choose an empty canvas or one of the base designs. The editor opens with your new layout.
- Set per zone which data is shown, for example property detail in zone 1 and an image gallery in zone 2.
- Set an orientation: landscape, portrait or both.
- Save the template and use it in a playlist.
Portrait or landscape
A screen behaves according to its actual physical orientation. Do you have an upright screen in the shop window? Then choose a template marked portrait or both. This makes the layout arrange itself correctly.
Some layouts only work in landscape (such as a wide split-screen) or only in portrait (such as elegant-stacked). The template library shows for each template which orientations are supported.
What if it does not work
A zone stays empty
Open the template editor and check whether the zone is linked to a data source. No linked data means no content.
Text is cut off in a zone
Text size scales with the zone width. If the text does not fit, reduce the text size in the template or make the zone wider.
The screen is in the wrong orientation
Make sure the template matches how the screen physically hangs. Is the screen rotated but the template landscape? Rotate the template or the screen.
