What is a player

A player is the device that puts the content on a screen. It is the link between the gibeon.io CMS in the cloud and the glass your customer sees.

Hardware choices

gibeon.io works on five paths:

  • gibeon.io player: our own ready-made box, pre-paired
  • Smart TV with Google TV: recent Sony, TCL, Hisense
  • Google TV Streamer: for TVs without a smart OS
  • Your own Android tablet or TV box (Android 11+)
  • Browser: TV browser, computer or iPad at p.gibeon.io

What a player does

Once activated, every player goes through the same pattern:

  1. Fetches its content assignment from the CMS
  2. Downloads the files locally for offline operation
  3. Plays content according to the active playlist, sequence or schedule
  4. Sends a heartbeat with its status every 30 seconds
  5. Responds to remote commands (restart, switch content)

When a player is not a gibeon.io screen

Only once you link a player to your tenant with an activation code does it count as one of your screens. A player that is not linked only shows the waiting screen with a code.
