Rotate a screen (portrait or landscape)

Every screen has an orientation. If your screen hangs upright on the wall, you set it to portrait in gibeon.io and the content rotates with it.

Setting the orientation

Go to Screens, choose the screen and open Orientation. You choose from three positions:

  • Landscape: the standard horizontal picture (1920×1080).
  • Portrait: an upright picture (1080×1920), for a screen that hangs rotated 90°.
  • Portrait with the rotation direction Reversed: the same upright picture, but rotated the other way.

A change shows on the screen within a few seconds. You do not have to publish.

You also choose Landscape or Portrait when you connect the screen, under Orientation in the step for name and content. You set the rotation direction Reversed afterwards, here.

If a screen is set to portrait and a data app in its content has no portrait layout yet, the screen page shows a suggestion under Orientation with Use. Publish again afterwards.

Portrait or reversed portrait?

Both show an upright picture. The difference is the direction of rotation: a screen can hang on the wall rotated clockwise or counterclockwise. If your picture is upside down after choosing portrait, set the rotation direction to Reversed.

An external screen (TV or monitor via HDMI)

Does gibeon.io run on a box connected to a TV or monitor via HDMI? Then let gibeon.io do the rotation and set the external screen to its landscape source, with picture mode “Just Scan” or “1:1” (no overscan, no “Fill” or “Stretch”).

If you also set the external screen to its own portrait position, the picture rotates twice and gets stretched. One layer may rotate, not two. If you do want to see the screen’s menus rotated, use that screen’s separate menu orientation and leave the source orientation on landscape.
