With the Instagram app you put the latest posts of your Instagram account on your screen, with the account name, the number of followers and the number of posts. You sign in to Instagram once and give gibeon.io permission to read the posts. After that, the screen keeps itself up to date.
What the Instagram app does
- gibeon.io fetches new posts every 30 minutes.
- gibeon.io keeps the last 25 posts, with the images, the text, the number of likes, the date and the link to the post. The screen shows a QR code to the post.
- The images are stored with gibeon.io, so they also show on the player without internet.
- A post that no longer belongs to the last 25, or that you delete on Instagram, disappears at the next sync of your screens, and gibeon.io deletes the copies of the images.
- If Instagram is unreachable for a while, the last posts stay on the screen.
Requirements
Only business and creator accounts work. A personal account cannot share its posts. See Convert a personal account.
Connect an Instagram account
- Sign in to app.gibeon.io.
- Go to Content › Apps, click Add app at the top right and open All apps.
- Click Add at Instagram. A window opens.
- Click Connect with Instagram. You go to Instagram.
- Sign in to Instagram and give permission. You come back to the window.
- The window shows the account (@username). Give the app a Name, or leave it as “Instagram”. Choose the Language on the screens: the texts around the post, such as the number of likes and the scan prompt for the post, appear in that language.
- Choose the layouts. There are two: an Instagram landscape layout and an Instagram portrait layout.
- Under Maximum items, set how many of the latest posts appear on the screen. The default is 10, at most 25. The newest post comes first.
- Click Save.
gibeon.io fetches the posts right away. While that runs, the button reads Fetching posts…. If it does not work, the window says what went wrong and nothing is saved.
If it works, the app appears under My apps. Open a playlist, click Add and choose the app under My apps. See Apps.
The same Instagram tile also appears under Design › Data at New source. It opens the same window.
A second Instagram app for the same account uses the same posts. So you connect the account only once.
Convert a personal account
If the account is personal, the window says: “This is a personal Instagram account. Only business and creator accounts can share their posts.” Convert the account in the Instagram app:
- Open Settings and activity.
- Open Account type and tools.
- Choose Switch to professional account.
- Choose business or creator, and go through the steps.
Then click Connect with Instagram again in gibeon.io.
What the screen shows
A post shows the image, the text, the date, the number of likes and the QR code to the post. At the top is a bar with the account, the number of followers and the number of posts. The landscape layout puts the image on the left and the text on the right. The portrait layout puts the image on top and the text below it.
- A post with several photos shows the first photo, with dots for the others.
- A video or reel shows its cover image with a play icon. The screen does not play the video itself.
- The number of likes, followers and posts is updated at most once a day. A new post, a deleted post or a changed text reaches the screen at the next sync.
The status of the account
On the source page, under Design › Data, the Instagram account card shows the @account, the number of followers and when the posts were last fetched, for example “Updated at 14:30, 25 posts”. When something goes wrong, it says in plain words what happened. Under the card it says “Fetches new posts every 30 minutes”. You cannot set the interval yourself.
The card has three buttons:
- Sync now fetches the posts right away.
- Reconnect signs in to Instagram again. Use it when the connection has expired or been revoked: the card says so and the button lights up. Sign in with the same account. A different account is refused, and you can connect it as a new app.
- Disconnect breaks the connection.
Disconnect
- Open the source page under Design › Data.
- Click Disconnect and confirm with Yes, disconnect.
The posts disappear from your screens right away and gibeon.io deletes the copies of the images. Your account on Instagram stays as it is. An app that used the source remains, but shows nothing until you connect again. A screen keeps the two previous versions of its program as a fallback. The texts of the posts may still be in them until a daily cleanup deletes them, usually within a few days.
If you delete the source itself, with Delete data source under More actions, the same happens: the posts disappear from your screens and the copies are deleted. The connection with the account remains.
If the card says that not everything has been deleted yet, a screen or the storage did not answer. Click Disconnect again or delete the source again. Meanwhile, gibeon.io also tries again by itself.
If you revoke gibeon.io’s access in Instagram, gibeon.io stops fetching new posts and deletes the access key. The card says that the connection has been revoked. The posts stay on the screens until you disconnect with Disconnect or connect again. If you ask Instagram to delete your data, gibeon.io deletes the posts, the copies of the images, the access key and the name of the account, and the page /instagram/verwijderd shows the status of your request. The source then remains under the name Instagram, and the card says that the account is no longer connected: connect an account with Connect with Instagram or delete the source with Delete source. An email to [email protected] is also enough. More in the privacy statement.
Limits
- Only business and creator accounts work.
- gibeon.io shows the last 25 posts, no more.
- Videos and reels show their cover image. Playback is not possible yet.
- You cannot change the 30-minute interval.
Troubleshooting
No posts appear
Open the Instagram account card on the source page and read the status. If it says the connection has expired, click Reconnect.
Connecting is cancelled or has expired
If the window says you cancelled the connection or that it has expired, click Connect with Instagram again and finish the steps within a few minutes.
The posts are not up to date
gibeon.io fetches new posts every 30 minutes. Click Sync now if you do not want to wait.
