Hardware overview

gibeon.io runs on your own device, via four hardware paths. Not sure which one fits you? At the bottom there is a quick guide.

The four paths

Smart TV with Google TV

Many recent Sony, TCL and Hisense TVs run Google TV. gibeon.io is in the Play Store on the TV itself.

  • For whom: businesses that already have a Smart TV
  • Installation: open the Play Store on the TV → search for gibeon.io → install → activate
  • More info: /en/players/smart-tv-google-tv

:::tip Set up autostart See setting up autostart for the first start. :::

Google TV Streamer

A separate streaming stick that you connect to a TV without Smart TV functions.

  • For whom: existing TVs or monitors without an OS
  • Installation: connect the streamer → Play Store → gibeon.io → install
  • More info: /en/players/google-tv-streamer

:::tip Set up autostart See setting up autostart for the first start. :::

gibeon.io Android app

Your own Android tablet, Android TV box or Android stick (Android 11 or newer).

:::tip Set up autostart See setting up autostart for the first start. :::

Browser

A TV browser, a laptop or even an iPad. No installation, you just open p.gibeon.io.

  • For whom: a quick trial or test setup
  • Installation: none, open the URL and activate
  • Point of attention: standby settings and firmware updates of a TV browser are outside our control. For production we recommend an Android device.
  • More info: /en/players/browser

Updates and support

You bring the device yourself, so management is shared:

  • App updates: on devices with the Play Store the gibeon.io app updates itself. A locked kiosk version (Device Owner) also updates itself automatically over the air. Only a regular sideload without the Play Store you update manually, again through the APK steps.
  • The device OS you update yourself, like any other device.
  • Monitoring: we see the online status and content sync of the gibeon.io app on your screen, not your device or your network. If a screen goes offline for more than 24 hours, check power and wifi on site (see player offline).
  • Diagnostics on site: both the regular app and the kiosk have a hidden developer settings screen that you open with the remote (read the status, change autostart, unlock a kiosk). See Install the app via APK.
  • Warranty on the device goes through the supplier where you bought it.

Software support on the gibeon.io app is the same for every device. See support and contact.

Frequently asked questions

Does gibeon.io work on Apple TV?

No. Apple TV does not allow third-party signage apps. Use a connected display with a Google TV Streamer or a browser.

Does gibeon.io work on Amazon Fire TV?

Not actively supported. Technically Fire OS is based on Android, so the Android app runs on it from Fire OS 8, but without the Play Store you have to sideload. Ask us if this matters for your setup. Sticks with Vega OS do not run Android apps. See Fire TV.

Does gibeon.io work on a Chromecast?

Yes. A Chromecast with Google TV installs the app from the Play Store. An old Chromecast plays a tab that you cast from Chrome on a computer, and that computer has to stay on. See Chromecast.

Does gibeon.io work on a Raspberry Pi?

Via the browser route: Chromium in kiosk mode pointing to p.gibeon.io. Your screen then appears in the overview with the type “Web Player”. We do not actively support this. See Raspberry Pi.

Which screen resolution is supported?

Full HD (1920×1080) and 4K (3840×2160). Both in landscape and portrait. The screen adapts to the actual resolution of the display it runs on.
