QR code

A QR code block shows a QR code on a white card, with the title or caption next to it or below it. Visitors point their phone camera at it and get a prompt to join the wifi, or the link opens. That works from a few metres away.

Creating the app

You create the QR code as an app first. Go to Content › Apps, click Add app and choose the QR code tile. At the top of the window you choose Wifi or Link.

For Wifi you fill in:

  • Title: preset to “Guest wifi”. You can change the title or leave it empty.
  • Network name: the name of your wifi.
  • Security: WPA/WPA2, WEP or No password.
  • Password: hidden by default. The button next to it shows it.
  • Hidden network: tick this if your wifi does not broadcast its name.

For Link you fill in:

  • Link: the address, which must start with http:// or https://.
  • Caption: a short text with the code. May stay empty.

Next to the fields you immediately see the real code, landscape or portrait. Save stays disabled until the details are correct:

  • a network name of at most 32 bytes (a plain letter counts for one, a letter with an accent or an emoji for more);
  • for WPA/WPA2 a password of 8 to 63 characters, for WEP a password that is not empty;
  • a title or caption of at most 120 characters;
  • a valid link of at most 500 characters.

The name of the app is by default the network name, or the site of the link.

What the screen shows

The code is on a white card. On a landscape screen it is about 70% of the screen height, with the text next to it. On a portrait screen the code is at the top and the text below it. For wifi, the network name and the password are shown too, each with an icon. The colours follow your organisation’s brand style.

The password is deliberately on the screen and in the code: a guest wifi is meant to be shared. So do not use this block for a wifi you do not want to share with visitors.

The code also works without an internet connection on the screen.

Putting it in a playlist

You add the code under Add › My apps, or create it straight away under Add › New app. A block lasts 10 seconds by default and keeps its own duration.

The block follows the app. If you change the app on the Apps page, every playlist that uses it follows, after publishing.

A screen with an old version of the player skips this block until the player is updated.
