Maximum file size

We apply a maximum file size per upload. This stops one single file from swallowing the whole storage cap or slowing uploads down for others.

Limit per plan

The limit applies per upload. On Pro each file may be at most 2 GB, and how many files you upload is determined by your storage.

What to do with a file that is too large

For video

Almost all uploads that are too large are video. Two options:

  1. Compress the video before upload. H.264 in an MP4 container, 1080p, bitrate around 5 Mbps. A tool like HandBrake does this for free
  2. Cut the video shorter. A 30-second clip on a screen is almost always more effective than a minute-long video

For images

An image that is too large is often an image at print resolution. For screen display, 1920 × 1080 at 72 DPI is enough. A 300 KB JPEG looks just as good on a 4K screen as a 30 MB PNG.

We automatically compress images to WebP behind the scenes ourselves, but the upload cap applies to the source file. So compress before upload.

For PDFs

Split large PDFs up per page or convert them to images before upload.

When to raise the limit

Ask gibeon.io for a temporary increase if:

  • You have a one-off campaign with a really large video that cannot be compressed further
  • You are migrating from another signage platform and have to transfer existing large files

Email [email protected]. For Enterprise customers this is a contractual item, not an ad-hoc request.
