Roll out a screen via URL

gibeon.io supports browser-only signage hardware (such as Yodeck, BrightSign HTML, generic Chromium kiosk displays) through a direct URL. No account link on the screen is needed. Pasting the URL is enough. This is unique: other signage platforms often ask for a login on the device.

Two kinds of URLs

Every screen has two URLs on the Technical tab:

Private URL

For rollout on a real screen. One session at a time per URL.

  • Format: https://p.gibeon.io/?d=<code>
  • As soon as a screen opens the URL, it claims the session
  • A second device that opens the same URL has to wait, or takes over after 60 seconds of inactivity on the first
  • Meant for production rollout

Preview URL

For sharing, for example with a colleague who wants to see what is on the screen.

  • Format: https://p.gibeon.io/?preview=<32-character-secret>
  • Multiple viewers at the same time are fine, no session conflict
  • A visible “PREVIEW” badge at the top right, so it is clear this is not a real screen
  • Revocable: one click on Generate new URL invalidates the old one immediately

Getting a URL

  1. Open your screen in the CMS.
  2. Open the Technical tab on the screen page.
  3. Generate or copy the URL you want.

Rolling out on browser-only hardware

The Private URL is exactly what browser-only signage hardware needs.

  1. Open the console of your signage platform.
  2. Create a new “Web App” or “URL” widget.
  3. Paste the Private URL.
  4. Set the Reload interval to Off (the URL handles its own refreshing).
  5. Turn Audio on if you play video with sound.
  6. Assign the widget to your screen and push.

After about ten seconds your gibeon.io content is running.

When do I regenerate my URL?

SituationWhat to do
You suspect the URL has leakedRenew the Private URL and reconfigure the screen
A Preview link ended up in the wrong Slack channelRenew the Preview URL, the old one stops working
A screen is handed to a new customerRenew both URLs before handover
Routine maintenanceNot needed. URLs are stable as long as there is no leak risk

Troubleshooting

“This screen is playing elsewhere” (Private URL)

Another session holds the lock on this screen. Wait 60 seconds, the page refreshes automatically. If the problem comes back: another device is using the same URL, or a second browser tab is open. Close the other tab(s) or renew the URL.

“This preview link has expired”

The Preview URL was revoked (by generating a new one) or never created. Ask the owner for a new link.

First boot works, but after a reboot I briefly see an error screen

The Private URL has a short security grace period (60 seconds) in which a second session is rejected. After a reboot the screen can land just within that grace period. The page refreshes automatically, no action needed.

Frequently asked questions

How many screens can I roll out via a URL?

No limit from gibeon.io. For 70+ screens at once we recommend rolling out in waves (start with 1, then 5, then 20, then the rest) so you spot any issues early.

Does offline mode also work with URL rollout?

Yes, once the first boot has succeeded. The player caches content locally in the browser. During a temporary network outage, what is already cached keeps playing. On a fresh boot after a wipe you need a network.

Can I use the same Private URL on two screens at the same time?

No, the URL is per device and single-session. For two screens you generate two URLs.
