Activate your first screen

A screen becomes active as soon as you link it to your tenant with an activation code. Your player shows the code, you enter it at app.gibeon.io and choose which content should play.

What you need

  • A player connected to the screen (gibeon.io player, Android device or a browser)
  • An internet connection on the player
  • Access to the gibeon.io CMS with the role Member or higher

Steps

  1. Connect the player to the screen with HDMI and turn it on. On first boot it goes through the wifi setup.

  2. Wait until the activation code appears. The player shows a code of four characters (letters and digits). Example: K7P2.

  3. Open the CMS at app.gibeon.io and go to Screens → Connect screen.

  4. Enter the code and give the screen a recognizable name, for example Shop window Main Street or Office entrance hall.

  5. Choose content (optional). Select an existing playlist, sequence or schedule. Nothing ready yet? Skip this step and link content later.

    If you have already connected a screen, this step asks What does this screen show? with the choices:

    • The same as (screen): the new screen plays the same content as that screen. If you change that content, both screens change.
    • A copy of (screen): the new screen gets its own playlist with the same blocks. That playlist is called <name of the playlist> (copy). If you change the copy, the existing screen stays as it is. This choice only appears if that screen plays a playlist.
    • Something new: the screen starts with an empty playlist. That playlist gets the name of the new screen, or New Playlist if you do not enter a name.

    If you have more than one screen, choose under Existing screen which screen you mean. The most recently connected screen is already selected. More choices shows the full list, including sequences and schedules. With Back you return to the choices. You connect the first screen as described above.

    The same step also asks for the Orientation: choose Landscape or Portrait. Landscape is on by default. For a weather widget with Weather at the screen, type a city under Place and click Search. This is optional. If you leave Landscape selected and choose no place, the screen connects in landscape and without a place.

    If you choose Portrait and the content plays a data app without a portrait layout, the same step shows Portrait layout: a proposed portrait layout per app, with Change layout and Skip. When you click Connect Screen, the choice is saved on the app, so a next portrait screen asks nothing more. After Skip, the screen shows the landscape layout.

  6. Click Connect Screen. The chosen content is published automatically and the screen switches to that content within a few seconds. If you have not linked any content, the player shows a waiting screen.

If it does not work

The code is not accepted

Codes expire after a few minutes. Reload the player (reboot it or pull the plug briefly). A new code then appears automatically. Try that one in the CMS.

Two screens, the same code

Each player generates its own code. If you see the same code on two screens, both are still showing the waiting screen with a cached code. Reboot one of the two.

The screen stays on the waiting screen after activation

The screen is activated but no content is linked yet. In the CMS, go to the screen and click Select content, or see the article about playlists below.

No code visible on the screen

The player has no internet connection. Check the wifi or cabling on the device. On a Smart TV with Google TV, it may also be that the gibeon.io app is not yet installed from the Play Store.
