Web page

A web page block shows an existing website live on the screen, for example a dashboard, a weather map or a page with news. The screen loads the page itself, so if the site changes, the screen changes with it.

Creating the app

You create the web page as an app first. Go to Content › Apps, click Add app and choose the Web page tile. In the window you fill in:

  • Name: what the app is called in your list.
  • Link: the address of the page. If you type it without https://, gibeon.io puts that in front.
  • Reload: how often the screen loads the page again. Choose Never, or every 5, 15 or 60 minutes. Reloading is useful for a page that does not refresh itself.

Then click Save. A link cannot:

  • start with http://, because the screen cannot show such a page;
  • contain a user name or password;
  • be longer than 2048 characters;
  • point to an address of gibeon.io itself, such as the player or your management environment.

Next to the fields you immediately see what the page looks like.

If a site cannot be embedded

Not every website wants to be shown inside another screen. The window checks whether the site allows it. If it does not, you see the warning “This site may not allow embedding.” If the window could not check, it says that too. Save remains possible in both cases. The screen then shows what the browser displays in the frame, and that can be an empty or faulty page. Try it on a screen before you put it in a busy playlist.

What the screen shows

The page is live on the screen, scaled so it looks the same on every screen. There is nothing to click: the screen shows the page, visitors cannot navigate in it.

A page that needs a login or cookies may not work. The screen is not logged in and keeps no session for that site.

Without an internet connection the screen skips this block. If this block is the only one in the playlist, the screen stays empty until the connection is back.

For now only a screen in a browser shows this block. Screens with an Android player (the gibeon.io kiosk, the app from the Play Store and a self-installed app), Samsung screens (Tizen) and Raspberry Pi skip it.

Putting it in a playlist

You add the page under Add › My apps, or create it straight away under Add › New app. A block lasts 10 seconds by default. You adjust the duration per block.

The block follows the app. If you change the app on the Apps page, every playlist that uses it follows, after publishing.

A screen with an old version of the player skips this block until the player is updated.
