Apps
Apps is where you set up Weather, YouTube, a QR code, a web page and data apps. You set an app up once and then use it in as many playlists as you like.
The two tabs
- My apps: the apps you have added. For each app you see which playlists use it.
- All apps: what is available, with a short explanation. If an app is not available yet, it has a label.
Apps opens on My apps.
In the grid, each app is a tile with a preview of how it looks on a screen. If an app on All apps has no preview, you see the app’s icon. The apps are mixed, not grouped by kind. With the two small icons right next to the tabs you choose between Grid and List: the name is in the tooltip. In the list, each app is a row of text, without a preview. The browser remembers your choice, for both tabs.
Adding Weather, YouTube, QR code, Web page, News, Calendar or Opening hours
- Go to Content › Apps and click Add app at the top right. You land on All apps.
- For Weather, YouTube, QR code, Web page, News, Calendar or Opening hours, click Add.
- Fill in the details in the window. For Weather you choose a place, for YouTube you paste the link. For QR code you choose Wifi or Link and fill in the fields: see QR code. For Web page you fill in the link and choose how often the screen reloads the page: see Web page. For News you fill in the address of the feed. For Calendar you give a name, choose the language on the screens and fill in the name and the iCal link of each calendar. For Opening hours you set Open or Closed for each weekday and fill in the hours; with + lunch break you add a second block and with Copy Monday to all weekdays you copy the hours of Monday: see Opening hours. On the right you immediately see how the app looks on a screen, landscape or portrait; for Opening hours landscape and in a side zone.
- Give the app a name and click Save. For News the name may stay empty, and then it becomes the title of the feed.
The app is now under My apps.
For News and Calendar, gibeon.io fetches the feed or the calendar straight away. If that does not work, the window says what went wrong and nothing is saved. More about the feed: News feed.
Instagram is in the same list. There you click Connect with Instagram, log in at Instagram and then choose the name, the language and the number of posts. It works for business and creator accounts: see Instagram.
Creating a data app
With the New app wizard you create a data app in four steps and put it in a playlist straight away.
- Go to Content › Apps and click Add app at the top right. You land on All apps.
- For Real estate connection, click Add. The New app window opens.
- Go through the four steps:
- Source: choose the data source. If you have no source yet, click Request a connection. If there is only one approved source, it is already chosen.
- Selection: use the switch at the top to choose Selection or One property. With Selection you filter on what you want to show and set the maximum number of items and the sort order. With One property you search for the property and click it.
- Layout: choose one layout. On the right you see the result and below it a line such as “X of Y fields filled”, with the fields that stay empty. A layout for screens with the other orientation you add afterwards with Edit. Below the layout are Adjust fields and colours in Studio and Create your own layout: both open in a new tab, while the wizard stays open.
- Name and playback: give the app a name and tick the playlists it should go in. Under each playlist you see which screens it plays on.
- Choose how to save:
- Save only: the app goes in as the last block of the chosen playlists. The screens that play them then wait for a publish; click Publish N screens at the top.
- Save and publish to N screens: the same steps, and the screens that play the chosen playlists are published straight away.
If you tick no playlist, or none of the playlists plays on a screen, you only see Save.
You return to My apps, where the new app is. If publishing fails for some of the screens, the message says so. Then publish those screens with the button at the top.
From a playlist (Add › New app › Real estate connection) the window has three steps: Source, Selection and Layout. The window shows all approved sources, including your own list. It ends on Add, the app gets an automatic name and goes in as the last block of that playlist.
Using an app in a playlist
Open a playlist, click Add and choose the app under My apps. Data apps are there too. You create a new app under New app: that opens the same window as on this page. The block keeps its own duration, which you set per block.
Changing an app
Go to My apps and click Edit. Every playlist that uses the app follows the change. Publish afterwards, otherwise the screens keep showing the old version.
A block in a playlist also has an Edit in My apps button. It takes you to the same place.
An Opening hours app opens in the same window in which you created it.
Opening hours
The Opening hours app shows whether you are open or closed right now, together with the hours of the week.
- The screen works out the status itself, on its own clock. That also works without internet. The screen redraws the status every 30 seconds.
- The texts follow the screen language of your organisation.
- One layout adapts to the space the app gets: fully landscape, fully portrait or compact in a smaller space, such as a side zone.
- Public holidays and vacations are not included yet.
After a change you publish, as with any app.
Data apps
A data app shows items from a data source with a layout, for example properties, products or a list. You find them under My apps. In the List view, each data app shows which source, which selection and which layout it uses.
Click Edit to open the data app. In the window you choose:
- the data source
- the layout for landscape screens, and optionally a second one for portrait
- which properties: a selection (for sale or to let, the place and a maximum price) or one property
- the maximum number of items
- the sort order
On the right you immediately see how the result looks on a screen. Below the selection you see how many properties the screen shows.
Below each layout is Adjust fields and colours in Studio and at the bottom Create your own layout: both open in a new tab. Studio saves your changes itself, also for other apps with the same source and layout; Save links them to this app.
With two layouts, each screen shows the layout for its own orientation. If you rotate a screen, publish again.
The name of the app follows the source and the layout, until you type a name yourself. Every playlist that uses the data app follows a change. Publish afterwards, otherwise the screens keep showing the old version.
A block with a data app keeps only its own duration: Duration per item, or Duration per page if the layout shows several items on one page. You change everything else in My apps.
Studio blocks that already had a source and a layout have become data apps. You create a new data app in a playlist under Add › New app › Real estate connection. That window shows all approved sources, including your own list.
Deleting an app
Click the trash can at the app. The trash can is disabled as long as a playlist uses the app. First remove the blocks from the playlists.
What the labels mean
On All apps, an app only has a label if you cannot add it yet. An app without a label is available: you can add or open it now.
- Coming soon: the app is planned but not ready yet.
- On request: send an email to support and we will arrange it together.
- In development: we are working on it and you cannot use the app yet.
Thanks for your feedback.
